New downtown state liquor store opens on June 3rd with first-of-its-kind features
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The brand new DABS state liquor store in downtown Salt Lake City opens on Monday, June 3, 2024. The new store replaces the existing downtown location near Pioneer Park. Officials will kick off the store opening with a news conference beginning at 9:45 a.m. and doors open to the public at 11:00 a.m. The downtown location is the state’s first-ever two-story liquor store, doubles the available inventory from the soon-closing downtown store, and features 37 doors of refrigerated products.
“The DABS is excited to open this store which is designed with a heightened focus on customer service. Better service for residents, tourists, and the hospitality businesses like restaurants and bars that rely on the DABS for products sold at their establishments,” said Tiffany Clason, Executive Director of the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services.
Clason says the new store is anticipated to generate $13 million in state fiscal year 2025. Of those sales, nearly $6 million will go to state and local governments, helping to keep taxes low for all Utahns by funding services such as roads and transportation, public safety, education, and health. The DABS expects 20 percent of downtown store sales to come from local hospitality businesses that acquire products from the DABS.
The new downtown liquor store replaces the existing store located at 205 West 400 South in Salt Lake City, which closes permanently on June 1, 2024 at 10:00 p.m.
